Retirement of PAM & Ron Reeks from the organisation of the Vintage Vehicles displays at the Rustic Fayre (Aug 2006).

It was back in 1982 that a young teacher and her engineer husband, were asked if they would bring their vintage vehicles to a Rustic Fayre being held in Reg. Day's field down at Ebblake. So Ron and Pam Reeks turned up with a car, motorbike and lawnmower. This event was such a huge success that it was decided to continue with the Fayre next year with Ron and Pam organising a display of Stationary Engines and vintage Vehicles. That is how their association with the Rustic Fayre began.

Within a couple of years the Fayre had outgrown Reg's. Field, so the event moved to Potterne Park. By 1995 this enthusiastic pair had organised a display of 37 Veteran & Vintage cars with 21 Stationary Engines. They start soon after Christmas contacting the vehicle owners with an invite to bring their pride and joy along to Potterne so that the thousands who now attend this annual event are able to appreciate the loving care that has gone into preserving these exhibits. This year 248 exhibits ranging from a Steam Roller to Miniature Steam Engines.

After playing such a leading role since the Rustic Fayre's conception twenty-four years ago, both Ron and Pam feel it is time to retire and let others pick up the organisation of the vehicle display, and who can say they don't deserve a rest? No words can really express the appreciation of Verwood Rotary Club, the Town, and the many local organisations that have benefited from the money raised, for their tireless work over the years.
